What Is The Chamber?

We have received a multitude of phone calls asking us to perform different services for the community, none of which we actually do. Although we are here to serve our community we cannot pick up your bulk garbage,  check your application status at Macy’s, open the community pool, solve your banking needs or provide you information on the latest holiday parties. So what does The Coral Springs Chamber of Commerce do?

A common misconception is that we are a division of the City. We are actually a non-profit with no direct affiliation with any other entity. We work side by side with the city economic development team, marketing team and government officials to ensure the best results for our members and the business community. As a Chamber, we are here to provide support for businesses and become their voice in political situations.

Another misconception is that we are all volunteers. There is a lot that goes into planning networking events, running the website, answering questions, designing promotional materials and ensuring the highest quality benefits for our members. Although we do volunteer a lot within our community, our positions within the Chamber are a full time job. A job that we all love!

The last common misconception is that we are an authoritative administration that can correct bad business situations. We do sympathize with the community when they come across a business that operates shady business practices. Unfortunately, all we can do is refer the community to The Florida Attorney General or The Division of Consumer Services. If the business is a member, which they usually are not (good job members!), we can put a note in their file.

So what does a Chamber do? If you are a business owner, we are your best friend. We can help you grow your business by providing networking opportunities of all kinds, advertising for you, promoting you in multiple ways and advocating for your business even when you are not present. We are a community of business professionals supporting one another, encouraging each other to grow and celebrating milestones. We are The Coral Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Social Media Etiquette

Write a BLOG on LinkedIn! Post something on Facebook! Publish a funny photo on Instagram! With so many options available for communication, many find themselves with their heads in their phones and not thinking logically about the world around them.

Some do not realize the cross between personal information and business professionalism. The most common problem I see is those that “friend” clients on Facebook. It is completely understandable that individuals want to use this form of social media to post personal information to be shared with friends. The lines start to cross when those that are looking to you as a professional see information that makes you appear less credible. For instance, I wouldn’t want to see my roofer out drinking with his friends the night before he is to be at my house. Is he going to do the best job he can the next day? Probably not. If I see my realtor ranting and raving about something trivial, I may question her character.

As a business professional one must decide what is best for their work/ social life. If you are comfortable showing all your clients your Facebook page during a presentation, then friending them may not be a bad idea. If you had to think about this, even for a moment, then creating a divide may be necessary.

I made this decision when I started my career many years ago when Facebook was less popular. Although I do not post anything I would not want others to see, I wanted my personal life to stay personal. I do not friend clients, not because I do not like them, but because I want them to know me on a more professional level.  I did, however, make my LinkedIn open to all clients that would like to connect with me. Everything on LinkedIn is business related and all BLOGS that I write are also posted on The Chamber of Commerce website.

 I challenge you to look back on your social media avenues and see where your professionalism may be questioned. If you see a blurred line, take the time this week and fix it!

Professional Appearances

Have you ever had a very professional looking individual walk into your office for a sales presentation only to be let down by the materials they present? Many focus on the individual’s appearance and forget about the looks of the literature being used to explain the sale.


I have seen the best concepts go to waste on grainy graphics, overwhelming designs and misspelled promotions. The consumer doesn’t even read the message because the errors are so distracting.


Before sending something, always be sure to peer edit! Your peers are the perfect resource for opinions and grammar checking. Our office always utilizes peer editing prior to sending out promotions, especially with the amount of daily promotions being sent. We are very honest with each other and know that all opinions are meant to better every promotion.


If you are an office of only one, find a friend or ally that will give you an honest opinion.  Sometimes more heads are truly better than one!
